Re: 2009 Senate Bill 970 (Liquor control)

I want to thank Kim Ward for this bill.  Large supermarkets and convenient stores have everything from gas to 50,000 items in their stores to sell and now they want to sell beer and put our beer distributors out of business.  The customers will also be losers because once your local beer distributor has closed because he can't compete, their choices will become limited by the 3 main beers on the market--bud, coors, miller.  Your local beer distributor can't compete because he only sells beer--not 50,000 other items-- and the supermarkets can sell beer at a loss until the beer distributor can't remain in business.  Remember also, when the supermarket buys this license, it takes a license from a resturant or tavern and that business will be lost for ever.  Our selection of places to go eat and drink will become limited.  Really, who wants to go to a supermarket to have a beer--not me, I perfer a nice tavern or resturant. These supermarkets and convenient stores are driven by pure greed.

I also feel that children should not be exposed to alcohol in supermarkets and convenient stores and that minors who work at these places should not be selling alcohol.

Thank you very much Kim Ward                                                                   wh

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 970 (Liquor control)

I think the 'mom'&pop' liquor stores in other states do not ask for ID often enough.  Here in PA the lequor store employees are REQUIRED to ID their customers.  But...I DO think our liquor prices are out of line.  We should be ngotiating a much lower price per bottle.  'MOM&POP' stores may only sell 200 fifths of Jack Daniels (i.e.)a month, but PENNSYLVANIA liquor control board should get a discount for the sales from that Distillery on the sale of (possibly) 2000 bottles of the same Jack Daniels fifths.

YOU'RE ON THE PAYROLL, NOW DO YOUR JOB!  NEGOTIATE A LOWER, FAIRER PRICE !!  Why should Pennsylvanians pay more for a fifth of Jack Daniels, Windsor, Calvert, Bacardi rum or Absolut gin than someone in New York or Maryland.  Our sales staff is ordering more per year.  It should reflect in the shelf price.
