Re: 2009 Senate Bill 369 (The Emergency Law Enforcement Personnel Death Benefits Act)

The basis for the bill has great merit and is a very worthy cause.  However, first I am miffed that it is limited to "paid Emergency Personnel" and then only to those paid personnel in "big cities" (according, to the news article in today's edition of the Harrisburg Patriot News).  To be fair & non-discriminating the Final Law should be equitable in its coverage and provide benefits to All who serve in such capacity, whether paid or volunteer; whether paid in a big city or paid in a small town

Dear Senators Logan (who introduced Bill 369) and Piccola("my Senator" who voted for Bill 369 in its present form), please explain to me and the 1,000s of Emergency Personnel left uncovered by the bill, why they were not included as beneficiaries since they provide the very same services as those who are covered.

Note: If I were a Pennsylvania Senator I would Not tout my voting for such a discriminating, ill-thought piece of legislation that leaves so many of the great Emergency Responders out; especially those Senators, such as Piccola, who left out his own constituency from places like Susquehanna Township, Lower Paxton Township, and a dozen more and covered the Big Cities!  What was he thinking?

You should read the actual text of the bill again.  Volunteer firefighters, EMS personnel and Rescue squad personnel are most certainly covered in this legislation.  I just read the bill and don't see where it limits benefits to big city firefighters.
